The asterisks are how many stars out of 10 I give each book.
About: Thriller/horror about old residents coming back to visit their old house at the behest of the new owners (lesbians but you can kinda tell a man wrote these lesbians like they're a little tropey but like not the worst ive seen). Weirdness ensues. I thought that this was a fun read, blew through it in about a day. Some of the scarier scenes have stuck with me since I read it (when she wakes up and checks the basement??!?) and liked the direction it took at the end, though I wish it had been a little more fleshed out. Wasn't my favorite prose and didn't leave me with a lot to chew on, but a would make a great read for airports, road trips, etc. I liked a lot of his imagery. Blake Lively will play the main character in the movie adaptation.
About: I'll spare you. Okay look I read this book because it was on my recently ressurected kindle and I wanted to see how different I would feel reading it at 21 vs 11 years old. It was so bad. After I read it I watched the Frankie's shelf review (one of my favorite book reviewers and youtubers) and agreed with him completely. I also rewatched the first season of the show which was somehow both better and worse than the book. Katherine Langely or whatever her name is is a HORRIBLE actress I'm sorry like Dylan Minnette is mogging you girl. Also clay is so annoying. Overall, I think that this book contributed to a sense of magical thinking I had surrounding death and suicide, particularly regarding the delusion that one can control the thoughts and actions of others beyond the grave. I don't think that it's entirely harmful for adolescents to read but I would recommend that most people stay away from this book.
